Artists' Open Houses

A most eclectic and wide ranging show

Artist Jan Mnich has opened Mnich's Mix on the Prestonville Trail, a most eclectic and wide ranging show, set in a bungalow with many levels leading to a sun drenched garden with superb views from the deck over woodland to the city and beyond.

Jan's colourful watercolours in mellow, glowing tones are described in her own words as inspired by water and its changing quality, the colour, atmosphere and light of the Mediterranean, and her love of travel, landscape and architecture. Jan is a previous exhibitor at the Royal Watercolour Society's London show. Her current exhibition, "Turquoise Journey", features her inspirations across water and the environments around water.

Other impressions:

Marilyn Panto: Fine resin bronze sculptures

Julie Frayne: Stained glass leaves and fish dangling from the trees, an opalescent blue seagull-hanging with the light streaming through it

Mary Cox: Handmade silk corsets and jackets ... gorgeous elegant simplicity ... a black and gold embroidered Chinese dragon corset

David Baker: Oak and wenge wood boxes in unadorned organic shapes ... their curves and smooth lines look as if they have been smoothed by the sea

Jonathan Wade: Japanese-influenced earthenware cut circle bowls, porcelain trays and simple serving dishes

Lorraine Gibby: Contemporary studio-jewellery in turquoise, fuchsia, jade, plum ... feathery inspirations

Sara Johns: Pretty papier mache decoupage collage bowls and mosaic mirrors... a nostalgic Victorian air ... Sara loves to use china of the past which has had its primary use, and she has now rescued it to use to create something new

Fleur Grenier: Contemporary pewter with a subtle glow ... clocks, napkin rings, cutlery ... curvy, tactile, sculptural and functional ... lacks lead, so will never turn grey

Chris Mitton: Small-scale sculptures in limestone and marble ... touchable, restrained, enigmatic ... abstract curves and serene lines

Shirli Gasten: Delicate little blue, grey and green ceramics

Pauline Crook: Hand painted scarves, silks and velvets in luminous colour combinations ... witty cushions with a summery Brighton feel, featuring gull and deckchair designs

Nigel Hammond: Digital photography ... images of cities and the sea from a traveller of the world

And the beautiful Zofia in her handmade gold silk corset, who described her role as "food minion".
